Victoria Police has released numbers suggesting thousands of member shifts are being pulled to police over twenty protests a week, leading to calls for protest precincts in Melbourne's CBD. 

Melbourne City Councillor Roshena Campbell backed the suggestion, originally made by the Victorian Chamber of Commerce to cut down on disruption for the city businesses and free up police resources. 

However, Senior Lawyer from the Human Rights Law Centre David Mejia-Canales says the idea would encroach on the human right to protest.
